Talking Been a long time since I was last on AWJ...

What's goin' on guys? It has been quite a few months since I've been on here. Here's my update:
  • Got laid-off from my oilfield job after the natural gas market became over-saturated across the US. It was a good job and paid well ($80K/year).
  • 2-months later, I got an offer from the DoD to be an Electronics Technician back at Edwards Air Force Base. No interview or anything. The pay is less than what I was making with Schlumberger, but my 13-years I served in the Navy can be bought back and added to this job. So, I accepted it. I am now an NJ-03 (GS-09-11 equivalent) working for the Electronic Warfare Group on base. Even though the job description was completely different from what I am doing right now, this is my "foot in the door" and I am networking with the people I want to work with/for. So, I'm happy!
  • Still do not own an AWD car, but I should have one by the end of 2013.

What's been going on with you guys and this site?

It is just north of Lancaster/Palmdale area. I live in Rosamond, right next to Willow Springs Raceway. LOTS of Subies around here. Surprisingly, not that many Mitsubishis.

Thanks! I haven't given much thought beyond wanting another subie again. Year or model really doesn't matter at the moment. I just want another Subaru again!

I love the small-town environment and there is no traffic. Lancaster is less than 15 miles away and Palmdale is the next town past that. If I need anything that requires me to drive out there, I'll try to make a day of it. Otherwise, I'll get what I need either on base or in Rosamond.

Yeah. I lived in Palmdale for a year and Lancaster for three years back when there was nothing....no mall, no movies no anything, only a few schools, few stores and track houses all over the place. I hear from some family that its notning like it was back in the day. Pretty ghetto now they tell me.

edit: I do miss all the open land though. Everyone had BMX bikes and use to run and make dirt tracks all day lol.

I spent my teenage years in Tehachapi, we used to go down to Lancaster/Palmdale for shopping and In n Out all the time. There is a great driving road up the back way to Tehachapi. From Rosemond head West until you hit 90th Street, then take it north all the way up and over the mountain. I am not sure if it still is open, but we used to go as a family down to the Airport in Rosemond and have Sunday Brunch at a Mexican place. You can do all you can eat style while watching the plans land.

However I do not miss living up there.

I've taken the Tehachapi Willow Springs Road quite a few times. I like it more than taking CA 14N to CA 58W to Tehachapi. Less traffic and all. The scenery has gone down greatly though because of all of the wind farms that have popped up all over that area. Oh well. It is still a nicer drive than the freeway and a MUCH nicer drive than driving in the city. :)
