Default STI HID internals in a Standard Headlight?

Does anyone know if I can buy a Standard WRX/Impreza Headlight and pull the HID internals from my cracked STI headlight and put them in the standard unit?

I only need the drivers side replaced, and I has no monies to spend big on teh JDM.

Standard headlight is going to be expensive enough:

Yeah I know. Mine are beyond repairable.....so I need both. Even used they run $200+ and that just for plain ol' WRX headlights.

no, the lens is missing a small section on one end, not cracked, it is the main body housing that is cracked and missing the 2 tabs on the top that actually hold it in place on the frame.

A guy on iwsti.com claims it cannot be done, but gives no reason why.

I don't see why not. They look like the same body, they have the spot where the ballast goes.

good point, I think they also have the tab where you would mount the leveling plug. Klure, are the bulb clips and rain cover salvageable? they both look pretty close to the same size.

I have standard WXR headlights, but the OEM HID bulbs do not fit. I think the previous owner sold them and downgraded.

You may have to get a retro-fit HID kit, but beware, most of the aftermarket ones are cheap and do not last.

if you go with retrofit, please don't go with those kits that require you to drill a hole. they are pointless in terms of leveling out the beam (up/down, and left/right). I wish i was home right now, cause i had a spare WRX headlight we could have tried the swap on.
