Yeah, She is paid for free and clear, so it is not costing me anything to hold on to her for a bit.

I should have a body guy at least come take a look and give me some idea of the cost just to cut off the front and straighten the front out a bit.

Good news!

Car is going into the Shop next Tuesday to get the work started!

I do have a question. The radiator does not hold much water, there is a crack somewhere in it. If I pull the radiator out now, how safe is it to start the car up to run for just a few min to pull it out of the garage and line it up for the tow truck? As it is now I have been starting it up once every other month to pull it out of the garage and back in while doing other projects. The max it runs is 5 min, but the hoses are on and at least some water/coolant is getting into the system.

My initial thought is I can pull the radiator and just plug the open ports up with a cloth and it should be fine, but I have never done anything like this before.

Thoughts?

Is the egg thing a joke? Drop an egg in the radiator?

I am pretty sure the radiator is going to have to come out of the car before he can start pulling it.

I guess I could push it down the driveway and into the street, but it runs and drives, so that is a bit easier to do.

I was introduced to a guy who works at a dealership body shop in north county who was able to get permission to use the frame puller at his work to work on my car on the side. The 2 guys who recommended him to me said he is a miracle worker.

My plan was to pull the radiator, and perhaps the AC filter thing before it goes to him next week so the only thing he needs to worry about is fixing the bent metal.

I guess I would try the raw egg thing if I felt I needed to drive it a small distance in its current shape, but I really think I need to pull the radiator out of the car and just don't know if it would be bad to run the motor with no fluid in the cooling system at all.

Did some research and it looks like running the car with no coolant for more than 5 min is a very bad idea, some people say anything over 10 seconds is bad, others say 1-3 min is ok.....

I think I may just not start it up anymore and push it.

There is some stop radiator stuff thats at most auto parts stores, it will plug small holes and what not for i believe around 12 hours, just long enough for you to plug the hole, fill up with some coolant and move the car where you need to.

i've used it, when i had my camaro.. it always ran hot too, even without a radiator problem.

I don't know what that means. I have a buddy who does spot painting for a living, he is going to mix up the paint code and spray those parts for me so they match the rest of the car even though you can't really see the front cross member, but I really wanted that part that goes around hte radiator and headlamps to be matching since you see them when the hood is up.

UPDATE on the STI

On Friday afternoon I brought the two body parts over to my buddy's house. He does car touch up painting for a living. He mixed up some World Rally Blue and painted them for me. I should be getting my body guy to finish up the front end here in a week or so.

My Body Guy came last night to do some work on the STI.

before he arrived I went ahead and pulled the Radiator, and moved the AC unit out of the way. (I think I might need to replace it, but it does not seem to be leaking, I will have to have my mechanic check it out later.)

Once He got there I took the Fenders off, only 6 Bolts to pop them off, that is easy.

I still need to get one more part before he can finish the job, so now I need to borrow a sawsall and go cut on a donor car.

So yesterday on the 4th my Body Guy came up and finished the structural work on my car. For me this is step one complete. Next I plan to order a timing belt kit, and pick up 2 new covers for my timing belt, buy a new AC Condenser and take the car into the shop to have the timing belt replaced, new Condenser installed and have the radiator installed.

Unfortunately that means the car is going to sit for another month or two while I save the monies for such things.

After that I need to get some new tires, drivers side headlamp, and a new front bumper.

Then an alignment.

After that the car should be done. If my finances work out I am hoping to have her finished in the fall some time.

Here are some pics from yesterday: I still need to finsih mounting the front fenders and the front cross member support.
